History/Overview
German automakers take a something-for-everyone approach to their SUV and crossover lineups, applying that philosophy equally to their combustion-powered and battery electric models. To wit, the E-Tron Sportback is an SUV coupe interpretation of the brand’s E-Tron all-electric SUV. The Sportback joined the Audi lineup in 2020, a year after the standard E-Tron’s introduction.
What’s New/Key Changes From Last Year
Changes to the E-Tron Sportback for 2022 are limited to a few new features: All models now come standard with wireless phone charging, and the uplevel Technik trim gains some new safety features in active cruise and lane assists, emergency and intersection assists, pre sense 360, and traffic sign recognition.
Available Trims
Audi offers the E-Tron Sportback in Progressiv and Technik trims. Both are powered by a pair of electric motors fed by a 95-kWh battery. A more-powerful S Sportback model is covered in its own buyer’s guide entry.
Standard Features
Progressiv trim starts with 20-inch wheels, auto-dimming/power-folding side mirrors, hands-free tailgate, panoramic sunroof, and passive keyless entry. Inside, there’s a heated steering wheel with power adjustments, heated front seats, leather upholstery, four-zone A/C, and an auto-dimming mirror.
Standard tech items include satellite radio, wireless phone charging, a smartphone interface, digital gauge cluster, 10.1-inch touchscreen, and navigation. The E-Tron Sportback safety suite comprises front and rear collision detection/mitigation, lane change assist, door exit warning, rear cross-traffic alert, blind spot monitoring, automatic high beams, and emergency assist.
Technik trim adds the new-for-2022 safety features listed above, plus power door closers, wet-arm wipers, heated rear seats, front-seat ventilation, rear-door sunshades, leather dash trim, a Bang & Olufsen stereo, top-view cameras, a head-up display, and a 360-degree parking aid.
Key Options
In Progressiv trim, a convenience pack brings heated rear seats, ventilated front seats, top-view cameras, four-way front-seat lumbar, and parking sensors. An adaptive cruise bundle adds adaptive cruise, active lane assist, pre sense 360, and traffic sign recognition. You can also add black optics and S line black cosmetic packages.
Technik’s major option is a luxury package of contour seats, posher leather, front-seat massage, an air quality system, and leather arm rests and knee pads.
Fuel Economy
Audi’s fuel consumption estimates are 3.1/3.0 Le/100 km (city/highway), and promised driving range is 351 km on a fully charged battery.
Competition
With the E-Tron Sportback, Audi is going after high-dollar electric SUVs like the BMW iX, and Tesla Model X.
